History
Rossi and Sons Westchester Granite Inc. opened for business in 1924. The company started operating as the primary supplier of foundation stones for the construction of the Yonkers Public School System. Shortly after, Rossi and Sons began to help builders develop the up and coming streets of Yonkers NY.
Anthony Rossi, the official founder of Rossi and Sons began to quarry granite from the Hills of Yonkers as a main supplier to the city. Just atop Midland Avenue business flourished for the young Italian American. Operating one of the dozens of quarries throughout the area at the time, Anthony was best known for his artistry and craft. Growing up an apprentice to his father who was also a mason, his knowledge and experience helped differentiate Rossi and Sons from other quarries in the Yonkers area. Anthony’s legacy lives on through Yonkers as being a man loyal to the expansion of the community. Anthony was well liked by his peers, employees, and colleagues.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s Anthony and his children, Peter and Fredrick, continued to supply communities with Yonkers Granite. The supply of granite spread to contractors all over the five boroughs and further throughout the tri-state area. Projects eventually began to stretch into New England and down the Eastern Sea Board. Rossi and Sons granite was supplied to many of the bridges still operating today across Westchester Counties Parkway System (Bronx River, Hutchison River, Saw Mill River, Sprain Brook).

The coveted structure sits alongside Nepperhan Avenue. The history of granite in Yonkers will forever rest along the base of the iconic structure in Yonkers NY.
In 1989 sons Pete and Fredrick took over the business as the lead corporate officers. Anthony announced his retirement but continued to hold a presence in the business. He was kept on as a consultant and marketer and even still helped cut stone. Pete and Frederick turned Rossi and Sons into the most well known quarry in the metropolitan area. One of their key business strategies was to be the best at matching stone from historical landmarks across New York that needed refurbishing or additions.
In the Mid 1990s Rossi and Sons helped the public school districts of Rye and Briarcliff with building additions that matched the original stonework of the early and mid 1900s. The landmark reconstruction in both districts has helped restore the history of Westchester County.
